Interview

Bernardo:  Where were you born?
Nelson Mandela: I was born in Transkei, South Africa.
Tiago:  What was the proudest moment of your life?
Nelson Mandela: My proudest moment was when I was finally elected president.
Maria: What were your objectives when you were elected President of South Africa?
Nelson Mandela: In that time I was very happy because my dream was becoming true. Then I continued planning what I should do and I decided to make peace all over South Africa. It was very difficult but I knew I could do it.
Tiago:  When did you join the African National Congress?
Nelson Mandela: I joined the ANC in 1944.
Maria: Mr. Mandela, what do you think about being one of the most famous men in the world?
Nelson Mandela: I am very proud of myself, but what I did is just what I think all the people should try to do.
Salvador: What are you planning to do in the next few years?
Nelson Mandela: I am very old so I don’t have many plans but one thing I promise I will continue to defend my country, South Africa!
Salvador: Do you suffer from any disease?
Nelson Mandela: Yes, I suffer from a very dangerous disease cold prostate cancer and I have suffered a lot because of that!
Bernardo:  Your granddaughter died in a car accident. What do you feel about it?
Nelson Mandela: Sad. One of my saddest moments in my life!


Biography

Birth and Family By: Salvador Couto
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa on July 18, 1918. His father was Chief Henry Mandela of the Tembu Tribe.

Education and Career By: Maria Carvalho
Nelson Mandela was the first in his family to attend a school and it was while there that the young Mandela was given the name Nelson. He attended a Wesleyan School and College and completed his Junior Certificate before moving onto the College in Fort Beaufort. After a while he became involved with the Student Representative Council and their boycott against university policies. Because of that, he was ordered to leave college and worked as a guard at a mine and as a clerk. He also studied Law at the University of Witwatersrand Africa. In May 1994 Mandela was elected President of the country’s first international government. Mandela resigned his post with the ANC party in December 1997.

Nelson Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1944. In 1462 he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison because he was fighting against  the apartheid laws but he was released in 1990 Finally Nelson Mandela convinced the government to end with the apartheid laws. This meant that black men would have the same rights as white men. Mandela changed the way the world thinks about different races being treated. In 1994 he was elected president and he eliminated definitely the apartheid regime.

Death Circumstances By: Bernardo Santos
Nelson Mandela is still alive with 92 years old! During the world cup his granddaughter died in a car accident he was very sad.  In July 2001 Mandela was diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer. In 2001 people thought he was dead. Is it true? No he was in holidays in morocco.
